Introducing Bright After School: Modern Pickup Management Built for Safety

After-school programs are responsible for hundreds of children every day. Yet most programs still rely on paper sign-out sheets, verbal PINs written on index cards, and a coordinator's memory to decide who is authorized to pick up a child.

We built Bright After School because that's not good enough.

The problem with paper

Paper sign-out sheets have three critical failure modes:

1. They can be forged. Anyone who knows a child's name can write it down. 2. They require staff to manually verify identities — which breaks down when a program is busy. 3. They create zero audit trail. When something goes wrong, there's no record.

We've spoken to dozens of after-school directors who have had close calls — parents who showed up early, unauthorized family members demanding to pick up a child, or substitutes who simply didn't know which parents were authorized.

What we built

Bright After School gives every authorized pickup person a verified digital identity. Before they can pick up a child, they upload a government-issued photo ID. Our system cross-references the ID with their account and flags any discrepancies for review by program staff.

At pickup time, parents show one of two things:

• A 4-digit PIN that the parent sets in the app and shares verbally with staff
• A time-expiring QR code that refreshes every few minutes, preventing screenshots from being shared

Staff scan or enter the code, and the system instantly confirms authorization and logs the pickup with a timestamp.

For programs with multiple sites

Bright After School was built for scale from day one. District administrators get a single dashboard showing all schools, enrollment, and real-time check-in status across every program. School-level admins see their site. Parents see their children.
